Description

“Have you heard the news? The apocalypse is coming, and it ain’t your daddy’s blues.” The Apocalypse Blues Revue is back with their sophomore album, The Shape Of Blues To Come. While this may be a side project for a couple of guys from a tremendously successful mainstream metal act (Godsmack), it’s also much more than that. There is a grand tradition in the pantheon of blues rock greats, that of the second album that literally defines a band: Led Zeppelin II, Beck-Ola, Mountain’s Nantucket Sleighride, to name but a few. Somewhere there is a kid who has been listening to Godsmack, who will now come to know The Apocalypse Blue Revue, and from this revelation of the blues they will back pedal through time and space to discover the long and honorably trod path that leads to Robert Johnson, the Kings (B.B., Albert, and Freddie), all the way forward to the Doors and the British blues rock boom, which finally leads straight to today. Somewhere a kid will listen to this record and discover the blues and decide to pick up an instrument to play or to sing a bit, and we all remember that journey, right? This is one of “those” albums. The Shape Of Blues To Come is that rarest of beasts, a second album that is not just better than their first, but one that defines what the band is at this point, and one that points directly to where the band is going. The Apocalypse Blues Revue is here to stay! The Shape Of Blues To Come will be released worldwide on July 20, 2018 on Mascot Label Group''s blues imprint Provogue Records.

A nice change of pace for blues rock fans. Prior to ordering I read that the guitarist and drummer are from Godsmack. Other than being a band that plays heavier music than my tastes typically run, I know nothing of them. After hearing the soundbites I took a chance and ordered this cd. I am so glad I did. I won''t go in to each song other than to say they are are solid and nicely produced, the tempo from track to track is nicely balanced. A fresh take on the blues. Full of spooky atmosphere and played with a harder edge than most blues rock, all the while maintaining the classic blues sound. The Jim Morrison like vocals adds a cool twist to the music. The guitar work is tasty and provides room for the songs stretch out, as good blues should. It''s music from a haunted jukebox. As if the spirits of the old blues and rock musicians rose up from the dead for a jam session in a cemetery. I have amassed quite a blues and rock collection over the years and this disc has already found a prominent place in it. If you are looking for something unique that rocks this disc is a good choice.

Some say I worship the devil I say he worships me! That lyric is from the track Sincere ( which in my opinion is the grand slam lyric of the year)! The boys hit it out of the park with the second installment of the Apocalypse! The music is top notch & draws you in! Blues from the wrong side of the tracks! Blues meets psychedelic grit! I am telling you ya can’t go wrong with this band! It has it all! In a world of cookie cutter bands who just keep on barfing out the same album again & again theses gents take you on a rare journey of total bliss! It is a slick trip that you want to embark upon! You find yourself in a biker bar or a meth lab in the desert take your pick either way you slice it is a hell of a ride! Music is meant to take you away from the daily grind! The Apocalypse Blues Revue achieve just that! This is by far the album release of the year! Do yourself a favor & pick this up! You will not be disappointed!

I really like the lineup on this record. The vocals are reminiscent of Jim Morrison. I have not heard Godsmack but might “review “ that decision! Get it listen to it you will like it.

Dark side of the heavy blues

Really good album. I like this album then there first but they are both very good. Kinda like a doomy/blues/rock style. If any of this sounds good I would recommend for any blues or even rock person to give it a listen.

The second album from a band, who like so many other unsung bands, do not get the proper recognition for their musical skills. Definitely as strong an album as their first one, if not stronger. A group of talented musicians who are producing top quality blues and blues rock music in the 21st century with an aditional hook of having a vocalist who does sound like the late, great Jim Morrison. I look forward to both their thrid offering and a chance to see them live.

Great hard blues

More mature than their first cd, this one really delivers. Don''t kid yourself, this is not a blues album; this is a hard rock blues album. Great musicians, great riffs, great sound, great songs. Definitely worth buying and listening to.
